LIMA — A Lima man who asked an 86-year-old driver for a ride — and then allegedly robbed him at knife-point — was quickly arrested by police Tuesday.

According to Lima Police Department spokesperson Jason Garlock, James Dalton, 45, of Lima, was at the Lima Public Library at approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when he asked the elderly driver if he could provide a ride to his sister’s residence. Dalton then reportedly got into the man’s car and the two traveled to the intersection of North Shore Drive and Eureka Street, where Dalton allegedly produced a knife and asked the driver for his wallet. The 86-year-old complied, police say, and James got out of the vehicle and left on foot.

The driver then went to a nearby business to call police. While on the phone with officers, the victim saw his attacker walk past and gave police an accurate description of the man as well as his exact location. Police arrived quickly and arrest Dalton, who had the stolen wallet and its contents in his possession.
