LIMA — A Lima woman convicted by an Allen County jury in February of firing her handgun through the wall of a Brower Road residence in September 2018 was sentenced Monday to six years in prison.
Julia Slayton, 36, was charged in a Bill of Information issued in September 2018 with a second-degree felony count of discharging a weapon into a habitation or a school safety zone. She elected to take her case to trial and, against the advice of her attorney, took the witness stand on her own behalf. Jurors deliberated for just over an hour before finding Slayton guilty.
Judge Jeffrey Reed on Monday sentenced Slayton to a mandatory three-year prison term for the use of a firearm during the commission of the crime and an additional three years for discharging that weapon into a residence.
